Welcome to Mission Hill

The Mission Hill Campus is the original Roxbury Prep campus founded in 1999 by Dr. Keith Motley, Evan Rudall, and John King. A school that once began with 75 6th graders has now expanded to over 300 students, serving grades 5-8. The extraordinary academic results of this school and other Boston charter schools played a significant role in the public policy decision to allow for the expansion of charter schools in Boston. Students from Roxbury Prep’s middle schools (5-8) have the opportunity to attend Roxbury Prep High School for grades 9 to 12.

20 Years

Roxbury Prep Mission Hill welcomed its first class in August 1999.

Grades 5-8

We are a free, public middle school serving students in grades 5 to 8.

Our students wear uniforms to foster a focus on learning and a stronger sense of community.

Our Foundation

Roxbury Prep prepares students for college and beyond. We achieve this with three high-quality, rigorous, aligned middle school campuses that serve students in grades 5 through 8.

We use our talents to make positive contributions to our communities. Through Morning Circle, after school clubs, and local partnerships, Roxbury Prep students enrich their own school community, contribute to the neighborhoods of Roxbury and Dorchester, and benefit from the support of Boston community organizations and philanthropic supporters.

With mandatory uniforms, a strict code of conduct, and school values supported by an Advisory curriculum, Roxbury Prep ensures that students develop the academic, social, and moral skills required for success in college and in life.

Great Teachers

Without good teachers, nothing else matters. Teachers are provided extensive support and coaching in curriculum development, instruction, and assessment, delivering engaging daily lesson and thoughtful, strategic unit plans.

Partnering with Families

Partnering with families is vital to ensuring the success of our students and schools. In addition to campus events, Roxbury Prep is committed to maintaining frequent communication with our families and invite you to our Parent Council Meetings.

The next meeting is TBD.

Arrive at the library at 6 p.m. and make yourself a plate of food (vegetarian options available), and join us for the meeting. The agenda is sent out ahead of time to all families via email. Please contact Mr. Smith if you’d like to add an item to the agenda.

Visit our Family Council page for more information about its history and how to participate.
