Welcome to Mission Hill

The Mission Hill Campus is the original Roxbury Prep campus founded in 1999 by Dr. Keith Motley, Evan Rudall, and John King. A school that once began with 75 6th graders has now expanded to over 300 students, serving grades 5-8. The extraordinary academic results of this school and other Boston charter schools played a significant role in the public policy decision to allow for the expansion of charter schools in Boston. Students from Roxbury Prep’s middle schools (5-8) have the opportunity to attend Roxbury Prep High School for grades 9 to 12.

Academics and Culture

Longer School Day

To ensure that every student masters each and every standard, we provide students with a longer school day, including extended periods of English and Math daily.

Curriculum and Development

Engaged in extensive professional development, coaching, and teamwork, our teachers develop units and lessons aligned with quarterly comprehensive assessments (IAs) directly aligned with Massachusetts Frameworks and Roxbury Prep curricula. These assessments and supporting materials form the base for the data-driven instructional model that has greatly enhanced student achievement.

Community Meetings

Our students regularly meet with our Principal during Morning Circle, a community meeting that includes topical lessons, presentations by academic classes, and Enrichment or athletics. Families and friends are always welcome to join in this celebration of our mission and culture of achievement.

Atiletismu y Inrikesimentu

Many students stay after the extended school day to attend tutoring or after school clubs. Throughout the school year, students go on several field trips, including cultural and enrichment visits to Blue Hills Reservation, Boston Bowl, and Canobie Lake. Every year, the eighth grade class goes on a special four-day field trip to Washington, D.C.

Our Foundation

Roxbury Prep prepares students for college and beyond. We achieve this with three high-quality, rigorous, aligned middle school campuses that serve students in grades 5 through 8.

We use our talents to make positive contributions to our communities. Through Morning Circle, after school clubs, and local partnerships, Roxbury Prep students enrich their own school community, contribute to the neighborhoods of Roxbury and Dorchester, and benefit from the support of Boston community organizations and philanthropic supporters.

Without good teachers, nothing else matters. Teachers are provided extensive support and coaching in curriculum development, instruction, and assessment, delivering engaging daily lesson and thoughtful, strategic unit plans.
